House Budget Committee Chairman Jodey Arrington recently appeared on PBS NewsHour with Amna Nawaz to discuss the passage of the Concurrent Resolution on the Budget for Fiscal Year 2025. The resolution, endorsed by former President Donald J. Trump, passed in the House of Representatives with a narrow margin of 217 yeas to 215 nays. This budget aims to advance Trump's America First agenda.
Arrington described the budget as "fiscally responsible" and "pro-growth," highlighting its focus on supporting tax cuts while curbing wasteful spending. He noted that the budget assumes a conservative annual growth rate of 2.6 percent, which he stated is lower than during both the Trump and Biden administrations but could generate an additional $2.6 trillion.
He emphasized that while the resolution sets a balanced framework, significant work remains at the committee level where policies will be developed in a bottom-up approach before conferencing with the Senate.
On Medicaid payments, Arrington advocated for biannual eligibility reviews, echoing past Trump administration policies. He claimed this would prevent fraudulent spending and save $160 billion, contributing to deficit reduction and program sustainability.
Addressing government efficiency, Arrington expressed concern about national bankruptcy risks and stressed trust in presidential efforts to ensure productive human resources within federal operations. He supported comprehensive audits to ensure taxpayer money is effectively utilized and endorsed initiatives led by President Trump and Elon Musk aimed at enhancing government efficiency.
The House Budget Committee provides further insights through Arrington's statement on the budget resolution's passage and his op-ed in the Washington Examiner.
