WASHINGTON, D.C. – Today, the House of Representatives passed H.R. 7032, the bipartisan Congressional Budget Office Data Sharing Act, by voice vote. This is the second time this year that legislation with sole House Budget Committee jurisdiction was considered and passed by the House.

Chairman Arrington of the House Budget Committee praised the passage of the CBO Data Sharing Act, emphasizing the importance of timely and accurate cost-benefit analysis regarding legislation. He expressed gratitude towards Ranking Member Boyle for leading on this bipartisan reform and fixing a part of the broken budget process.

Ranking Member Boyle also commended the passage of H.R. 7032, highlighting the critical support provided by the Congressional Budget Office to lawmakers and committees in Congress for the past fifty years. He stressed the need to ensure that the CBO has access to the data required for issuing timely reports and analyses.

The CBO Data Sharing Act aims to address the challenges faced by the Congressional Budget Office in accessing necessary data from executive branch agencies promptly and without restrictions. This legislation will enable the CBO to provide accurate and timely cost scores for legislation, facilitating informed decision-making by lawmakers regarding the fiscal impact of prospective bills.

The Act passed the House Budget Committee unanimously on February 6, 2024, and has now received bipartisan support in the House of Representatives. It is seen as a crucial step towards improving the budgetary analyses and economic forecasts provided by the Congressional Budget Office.
