Today, in Washington, D.C., the United States House of Representatives narrowly passed the FY25 Concurrent Budget Resolution in a vote of 216-214. This marks the first budget resolution passed by a Republican-controlled Congress since 2017. The budget resolution, initially amended by the U.S. Senate, aligns with President Trump's America First agenda, focusing on tax cuts, border and defense funding, deregulation, and increased American energy production, while also addressing deficit spending.

House Budget Committee Chairman Jodey Arrington (R-Texas) commented on the passage, emphasizing the significance of controlling deficit spending and reducing national debt. He stated, "The fiscal state of the nation is in rapid decline. Our out-of-control deficit spending and unsustainable debt are the greatest threat to our country and our children’s future. No responsible leader can witness this precipitous decline and defend the status quo."

The Speaker of the House and the Senate Majority Leader have pledged to reduce spending by at least $1.5 trillion. Arrington noted the alignment of the budget resolution with President Trump's call to move towards a balanced national budget, asserting, "The Speaker of the House and the Majority Leader of the Senate have committed to reduce spending by at least $1.5 trillion. Consistent with the House-passed budget resolution and President Trump’s call to put our nation on a path to balance, we received assurances from the Speaker that the House will not consider a final reconciliation bill that adds to the national debt."

Arrington urged Congressional Republicans to act decisively, saying, "Now, more than ever, is the time for Republicans in Congress to demonstrate the courage of their convictions and take the bold action this historic moment requires."

Emphasizing the long-term impact of their actions, Arrington warned, "If we do, we will secure the blessings of liberty to our posterity. If we don’t, we will squander this historic moment, foreclose on our children’s future, and be the first generation of leaders to leave our nation worse off than we found it."
