Washington, D.C. – Today, Chairman Jodey Arrington (TX-19) expressed his thoughts following the Supreme Court's decision to permit Senate Bill 4 (S.B. 4) to be enacted in Texas.
In his statement, Chairman Arrington emphasized the constitutional principles at play, stating, “The Constitution is clear: Section IV Article 4 says the federal government ‘shall protect each of [the states] against Invasion.’ When the federal government fails to fulfill this constitutional duty, Article 1 Section 10 expressly guarantees states the sovereign power to repel an invasion and defend their citizenry from overwhelming and ‘imminent danger.’”
Arrington also criticized President Biden, alleging that he has neglected his obligations, saying, “It is clear to any honest and objective person living in this country that President Biden has willfully disregarded the laws of the land, abdicated his constitutional duty to provide for a common defense, and unilaterally surrendered control of our border to terrorist drug cartels.”
In a positive note, he commended the Supreme Court for allowing Texas to implement S.B. 4, stating, “I applaud the Supreme Court for allowing Texas to do what President Biden won’t – stop the chaos, secure the border, and protect Texans and Americans.”
The background of the situation includes Chairman Arrington introducing legislation in 2021 reaffirming states' rights to secure their borders, Governor Abbott signing S.B. 4 into law in 2023, and subsequent legal battles leading to the recent Supreme Court decision.
Chairman Arrington has been a vocal advocate for securing the border and protecting American citizens, with his recent statements reflecting his dedication to upholding constitutional principles and defending the interests of Texas residents.
