House Budget Committee Chairman Jodey Arrington (TX-19) has announced that he will not be running for the position of Speaker of the House at this time. In a statement released today, Arrington stated, "After careful consideration and much prayer, I have decided not to run for Speaker at this time. There are several capable candidates who have stepped forward to run, and I plan to support whomever our Conference elects on Tuesday."
Arrington emphasized the importance of unity within the Republican Party, stating, "From my perspective, the real question for House Republicans isn’t, 'Who will lead us as our next Speaker?' but, rather, 'Are we ready to be led as a team?' The greatest threat to our conservative agenda isn’t the Democrats – it’s disunity."
Highlighting the need for the party to come together, Arrington expressed that the American people are tired of the dysfunction in Washington. He stated, "The American people are weary of our dysfunction. At some point, we have to reunite as a Conference, refocus on our common cause, and get back in the fight for the future of our country."
Arrington's decision not to run for Speaker of the House comes as the Republican Conference prepares to elect a new leader on Tuesday. While Arrington will not be pursuing the position himself, he has made it clear that he will support whoever the Conference elects.
With the announcement of his decision, Arrington's focus remains on the importance of unity and working together as a team. As the Republican Party looks to the future, it is crucial for them to find common ground and move forward with a shared vision for the country.
