Today, House Budget Committee Chairman Jodey Arrington delivered opening remarks at the Organizational Meeting to consider the rules of the committee for the 119th Congress. He addressed both the Authorization and Oversight Plan for the same term.

Chairman Arrington highlighted past achievements, stating, "When I say I'm proud of what we've been able to do collectively...Both sides have demonstrated that, but I also strongly believe that when we work together to find common ground, that's a more sustainable proposition for the country."

He acknowledged collaboration with Brendan Boyle and colleagues from both parties. "Thanks to my friend and ranking member, Brendan Boyle for his commitment," he said. Arrington noted that although changes might seem small—"nickels and dimes"—they contribute significantly towards fixing a dysfunctional budget process.

The Chairman praised bipartisan efforts within the committee: "We passed 17 bills out of this committee in one Congress... Eleven of the 17 were done on a bipartisan basis." He emphasized improving accountability and responsibility through these bills.

Arrington commended specific contributions from colleagues like Glenn Grothman and Brendan Boyle: "Mr. Boyle, you had [a bill]...Glenn Grothman got his first bill passed...to reduce unnecessary reports."

Looking forward, Arrington called for continued bipartisanship while acknowledging potential partisan efforts such as a 10-year balanced budget resolution. He stressed addressing fiscal challenges: "We have to continue sounding the alarm for the American people that this country...are on a completely unsustainable fiscal path."

He warned about Medicare and Social Security's looming insolvency while expressing excitement about advancing an America-First agenda alongside existing priorities.

Arrington introduced new members Marlin Stutzman, Jay Obernolte, Mike Carey, Andrew Clyde, Erin Houchin, Addison McDowell, Brandon Gill, and Tim Moore. He underscored their roles in tackling current fiscal issues.

In closing remarks emphasizing budget balance necessity at state levels versus federal practice disparity: “States have to make budgets...you're going to change that.”
