Earlier this week, President Trump signed an executive order to establish the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE). This new department aims to modernize and streamline the federal government. The initiative is expected to utilize key technologies like artificial intelligence (AI) to enhance government productivity while reducing spending. However, significant research is required to determine how best to apply AI for sound fiscal governance.

To provide Congress with a better understanding of AI's benefits, the House Budget Committee has commissioned the first-ever Congressional Budget Office (CBO) report on AI. Under Republican leadership, both AI and DOGE are seen as essential for grasping technology's impact on the increasingly large federal government.

President Trump outlined the scope and intent of DOGE for the next 18 months through an executive order signed on his first day in office. He tasked DOGE with modernizing federal government technology and software to boost efficiency and productivity.

The CBO report marks an important step in understanding AI's potential effects on government operations. The House Budget Committee previously held a roundtable discussion with Andrew McAfee from MIT Sloan School of Management and Jason Payne from Microsoft Federal. They discussed AI's implications for the economy and government.

House Budget Committee Republicans anticipate that DOGE will help eliminate waste, fraud, and abuse within the federal government.
