Today, the Congressional Budget Office (CBO) issued a report concerning the United States' debt limit. According to the CBO, if the debt limit remains unchanged, the government's capacity to borrow using "extraordinary measures" may be depleted by August or September 2025. The depletion could occur as early as May.
Budget Chairman Jodey Arrington from Texas commented on this development. He stated, "The debt ceiling has always been a critical check on Congress and their endless appetite to borrow and spend, which is driving our unsustainable national debt." Arrington emphasized the importance of paying bills and maintaining the United States' good faith and credit while also advocating for fiscal responsibility.
Arrington further remarked on efforts to address this issue: "That is why the House-passed budget blueprint addressed the need to raise the debt limit by responsibly pairing it with meaningful fiscal reforms that will rein-in spending, reignite economic growth, and reduce our debt to GDP." He urged the Senate to act promptly in order to fulfill President Trump's agenda for Americans.
