WASHINGTON, D.C. – In a bold move to address the ongoing crisis at the southern border, Member of Congress Rep. Arrington has offered an amendment to the Department of Homeland Security Appropriations Act. The amendment, which affirms states' sovereign right to secure the border in the face of federal government failure, mirrors Rep. Arrington's H. Res. 50.

Rep. Arrington's amendment has gained support from numerous Republican colleagues and has garnered attention through press conferences, op-eds, and Governor Abbott's recent declaration of an invasion at the southern border.

During his speech introducing the amendment, Rep. Arrington passionately outlined the urgent situation at the border and criticized the federal government's failure to provide for the common defense and uphold the laws of the land. He specifically called out the administration for aiding and abetting what he believes is an invasion by drug cartels, resulting in the loss of lives and the deterioration of border towns.

Rep. Arrington emphasized the constitutional power of self-defense held by states and the obligation of the federal government to repel an invasion. He called on his Democrat colleagues to acknowledge the imminent danger faced by the citizens of Texas and to take action to enforce laws, deport individuals who have broken the law, and secure the border.

"We welcome the immigrant who wants a better life. We welcome the immigrant who wants a better future for their family. But, we will only welcome those who respect our laws, our sovereignty, and the safety of the American people," declared Rep. Arrington.

In closing, Rep. Arrington urged Texas and all states to stand up, fill the gap, and protect their citizens, while also emphasizing the need to restore law and order. He pledged his support to Governor Abbott and state leaders, stating, "The Constitution is behind you, and so am I."
