WASHINGTON, D.C. – This week, the U.S. House of Representatives will vote on H.R. 2, the Secure the Border Act of 2023.
“From his first day in office, President Biden has failed to uphold his Constitutional responsibility to enforce our laws, defend our sovereignty, and protect our citizens. As a result, he has created the worst humanitarian and security crisis at our southern border in America’s history,” said Rep. Arrington. "I am proud to support H.R. 2, the Secure the Border Act, which will cut off the unmitigated flow of drugs, gang violence, and criminals pouring across our border into our country. Republicans' plan for a secure border is just common sense. We will finish the wall, deploy technology, empower our agents, turn off the magnets, close asylum loopholes, and end catch and release. The American people deserve a Commander in Chief who puts our citizens’ safety and our nation’s sovereignty first."
Background
The legislation will:
- Force the Biden Administration to restart construction of the border wall
- Deploy technology to the southern and northern border
- Increase the number of Border Patrol agents and provide bonus pay
- Require transparency regarding illegal crossings from the Department of Homeland Security Strengthen current law to protect unaccompanied children from human trafficking
- End catch and release
- End abuse of executive immigration authority Strengthen and streamline the asylum process
