Five local startups are set to receive a combined $83,600 in grants from The Prototype Fund, a partnership between the Innovation Hub at Research Park and the Lubbock Economic Development Alliance.
The purpose of the fund is to “further support startups by accelerating the development for prototypes, assisting in the development of intellectual property or developing a minimal viable product,” according to Texas Tech Today. Recipients of the grants include students and faculty with the Texas Tech University and the Texas Tech University Health Sciences Center.
The largest grant – $19,000 – will go to TKQuant LLC for the further development of an image-based technique to quantify tissue kinematics response to a procedure in real time, according to the release. In a close second, Flow Raider LLC was awarded $18,000 to further develop micro-scale structures used as a surface coating in applications such as wind turbines and vehicles to improve aerodynamics.
Envirotech LLC was awarded $13,000 to further develop a portable sensor for COVID-19 diagnostics using saliva or blood plasma; PCOS Innovations LLC was awarded $10,800 to further develop an mobile application to assist women diagnosed with polycystic ovary syndrome; and CritiColl LLC was awarded $10,000 to further develop a stress-saving mobile application intended for professors to assist in promoting student academic success.
