There were five American Indian students enrolled in New Deal ISD schools in the 2022-23 school year, according to the Texas Education Agency.

Data showed that New Deal ISD schools welcomed 757 students during the 2022-23 school year. Among them, American Indian students comprised 0.7% of the student body to be one of the least represented ethnicities in the district.

New Deal ISD roughly covers schools within Lubbock County and has a main office in New Deal.

Among the four schools in New Deal ISD schools, New Deal Middle School recorded the highest enrollment of American Indian students in the 2022-23 school year, with a total of three students.

The Texas education system is currently torn between public schools and taxpayer-funded private schools.

Critics argue that private schools use funds that should go to the public school system, while private school advocates claim they’re offering better education for more Texas students.
