During its virtual 2020 campaign event, the Lubbock Area United Way raised more than $5 million.
As it stands, the United Way is at over 90% of its 2020 fundraising goal. It is expected that it will meet the goal, but the final results will be announced in January, when the organization convenes for its annual meeting.
“I want to recognize the faith and hope that went into every penny given so far and the hard work of all of our volunteers," Campaign Chair AJ Martinez said. "I also want to recognize the thousands of people who have given during these uncertain times. We are not through yet. We are committed to the work of our Community Partners and to our South Plains communities, and we’re going to keep working alongside you to reach the goal.”
The organization has been vocal about recognizing medical professionals and their efforts during the coronavirus pandemic. The United Way's goal is to provide assistance to those in need through affordable health care, adult literacy, job training, and mentoring for the youth population.
