Don Maynard died January 10, 2022, known for football
Don Maynard, born January 25, 1935, in Crosbyton, Texas, died on January 10, 2022, at age 86. He played college football at Texas Western College (now UTEP), where he contributed as a receiver, rusher, returner, and defensive back. Drafted by the New York Giants in 1957, he later joined the New York Titans, which became the Jets. Maynard became the first professional player to surpass 10,000 receiving yards, finishing his career with 633 receptions, 11,834 yards, and 88 touchdowns. He was a key figure in the Jets’ 1968 AFL Championship victory, recording six catches for 118 yards and two touchdowns, leading to their Super Bowl III win. In 1987, he was inducted into the Pro Football Hall of Fame. The Jets retired his No. 13 jersey.
