Texas Tech University’s women’s golf team is preparing to compete in the Sam Golden Invitational, which will take place September 8-9 at Oakmont Country Club in Corinth, Texas. The tournament, hosted by North Texas, will feature 12 teams and follow a stroke play format over 54 holes.

The Red Raiders’ lineup includes Lauren Zaretsky, Denisa Vodickova, Amy Squires, Maja Ambroziak, and Cameron Freund. Klara Hurtova will participate as an individual. Other schools competing are Central Arkansas, Kansas State, Louisville, Middle Tennessee, Missouri (Mizzou), Nebraska, New Mexico State, Texas State, Tulane, Tulsa, and UTSA.

The event begins with a practice round on Sunday. On Monday there will be two rounds with a shotgun start at 8:30 a.m., followed by the final round on Tuesday starting at 8 a.m.

Texas Tech last played this event in fall 2023 and finished seventh out of twelve teams. Two players from that lineup—Maja Ambroziak and Lauren Zaretsky—return for this year’s tournament. Ambroziak finished tied for tenth as a freshman last year with an eight-under-par score of 208. Zaretsky placed fifty-ninth after shooting six-over-par.

Zaretsky led the Red Raiders during their season opener at the Carmel Cup last week at Pebble Beach Golf Links by tying for eighth place with an even-par total across three rounds. Newcomers Amy Squires and Denisa Vodickova both achieved top-20 finishes in their first appearance for Texas Tech.

The current squad features six returning players from last season along with three newcomers: freshmen Pia Eide from Norway and Amy Squires from Australia; transfer Denisa Vodickova previously played for Wake Forest.

Klara Hurtova returns for her junior year after qualifying individually for the NCAA last season and winning two events—a feat accomplished by only three other players in program history. She did not travel to California for the team’s opening event but will make her debut this week.

After the Sam Golden Invitational, Texas Tech’s fall schedule continues with tournaments including the Red Raider Invitational (September 23-24) in Lubbock; Illinois Women’s Invitational at Medinah (October 6-7); and Jim West Challenge (October 19-20) in San Marcos.
