Texas Tech advanced to the NCAA Division I Women’s Golf Championships for the fifth time in program history after finishing fifth at the NCAA Ann Arbor Regional at the University of Michigan Golf Course, according to a May 13 announcement.
The Red Raiders’ advancement is significant as it marks another milestone for their program, highlighting their consistency and competitiveness on a national level. The team will compete in the championship from May 22-27 at Omni La Costa Resort & Spa.
“This means a lot to us,” said head coach JoJo Robertson. “It’s been such a fun year. We’ve played really well at times and had some down moments too. But to watch the team fight today, and even though it got close, they played their hearts out, and it was just so much fun to be a part of.”
Texas Tech secured one of five advancing spots from the regional, joining No. 2 USC (+1), Ohio State (+6), No. 10 Duke (+16), and Northwestern (+17). The Red Raiders finished two shots ahead of UCF for the final qualifying position with a total score of 22-over-par 874 (288-285-301). Maja Ambroziak and Lauren Zaretsky led Texas Tech with top-10 finishes, both tying for eighth place at one-over-par 214 across three rounds.
The NCAA Championships will begin May 22 with three rounds of stroke play over three days before cutting the field from thirty teams down to fifteen ahead of a final round on May 25. The top eight teams after four rounds will advance to match play on May 26, culminating in the national championship match scheduled for May 27.
Texas Tech’s best finish at an NCAA Championship came in 2015 when they placed fifth nationally and reached match play in Bradenton, Florida. Their other appearances were in 1996 (12th place), 2017 (22nd place), and last year in 2023 (21st place).
Looking forward, Texas Tech aims to build on its past performances as it prepares for another opportunity at national competition.
