The Texas Tech track and field team is set to compete in the 2026 Big 12 Outdoor Championships from Thursday through Saturday at Drachman Stadium, hosted by Arizona, according to a May 13 announcement.
The event is important as both the men’s and women’s teams will be aiming to secure their second-consecutive Big 12 outdoor titles. Both squads have already won their respective indoor titles this season.
Recent results show strong performances from both teams. The men finished first in 2025 with 136 points, second in 2024 with 155 points, and first again in 2023 with a score of 179. The women also had notable finishes, winning first place last year with 127 points after finishing third and fourth the previous two years.
In national rankings released during week seven by the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA), the Texas Tech women are ranked eighth heading into the meet, while BYU holds fourth place. The men are ranked thirteenth, just behind Kansas State at twelfth.
Key athletes returning include Temitope Adeshina on the women’s side, who has won two-straight outdoor high jump titles and aims for her fifth consecutive title including indoor competitions. For the men’s team, BJ Jennings (high jump) and Desean Boyce (400 meters) return as defending individual champions. Johnathan Crawford and Kimarlie Stewart are also back after helping secure last year’s men’s relay title.
Looking ahead, Texas Tech’s track program seeks to build on its recent success as it competes against top-ranked conference opponents for more championship trophies.
