Texas Tech announced on Apr. 1 that its No. 2 ranked softball team will host Brigham Young University this weekend at Tracy Sellers Field in Lubbock, Texas. The series starts Thursday at 6 p.m., continues with a nationally televised game on Friday at 6 p.m. on FS1, and concludes Saturday at noon.
The matchup is significant as Texas Tech enters the weekend with a strong record of 35-2 overall and an 11-1 mark in conference play, currently riding a ten-game winning streak. The Red Raiders have swept their last two conference opponents, No. 25 UCF and Iowa State, while BYU comes into the series with an overall record of 11-22 and a conference record of 2-7.
Historically, Texas Tech leads the all-time series against BYU six games to three, including back-to-back series wins in Provo over the past two seasons. This weekend marks BYU’s first visit to Lubbock for conference play after previously meeting only at neutral sites before joining the Big 12.
Several players are highlighted for their recent performances. Mihyia Davis ranks first among active college players in hits (313), at-bats (765), and stolen bases (130). NiJaree Canady recently became the first Red Raider to receive an AUSL Golden Ticket symbolizing selection into professional softball; she is also nearing her career milestone of one thousand strikeouts.
Kaitlyn “KT” Terry has led Texas Tech offensively through thirty-seven games with a .538 batting average—fourth best nationally—and maintains a perfect pitching record of fourteen wins without loss alongside a low earned run average.
Head coach Gerry Glasco remains undefeated in his last sixty-three conference series dating back to his tenure at Louisiana, having come from behind after losing opening games ten times during that span.
