Texas Tech opened NCAA Regional play in strong position on May 11, shooting a 4-over-par score of 288 to finish the first round in sixth place at the NCAA Ann Arbor Regional held at the University of Michigan Golf Course.
The Red Raiders are one shot outside the top five, which is required to advance to the NCAA Championship Finals in Carlsbad, California. The fifth-place spot is currently held by No. 14 UCF with a score of 3-over-par 287, while Ohio State and Northwestern share the lead at 5-under-par 279.
Maja Ambroziak led Texas Tech with a score of two-under-par 69, tying for sixth individually among a field of 66 players. The junior achieved her first under-par round since April and her fourth round in the sixties this season. Ambroziak trails co-leaders Ashley Yun and Elise Lee of USC by three shots after both posted rounds of five-under-par 66.
Lauren Zaretsky finished even par with a score of 71, placing her tied for fifteenth. Denisa Vodickova and Klara Hurtova each recorded scores of three-over-par 74 and are tied for thirty-third place. Cameron Freund is tied for fifty-seventh after shooting seven-over-par 78.
Play will resume on Tuesday at 7 a.m. Central Time (8 a.m. local time) as Texas Tech continues with the second round out of three scheduled rounds at regionals. The final round is set for Wednesday.
