Texas Tech moved back to the top spot in three of the four major national softball polls as of April 7, with D1Softball, ESPN/USA Softball, and the National Fastpitch Coaches Association ranking the Red Raiders at No. 1. The team remained at No. 2 in Softball America’s poll, where Alabama held the top position after winning two out of three games against then-No. 1 Texas last weekend.
The new rankings come as Texas Tech enters week nine of the season on a strong run, holding a 13-game winning streak that is currently second-longest in the country behind Florida State.
Pitchers NiJaree Canady and Kaitlyn Terry have played key roles this season, combining for 30 wins out of Texas Tech’s total of 38 victories so far. In addition to their pitching strength, hitters Kaitlyn Terry and Jackie Lis have stood out recently within Big 12 play.
Jackie Lis was named Big 12 Player of the Week last week following her performance at bat, while Kaitlyn Terry set a new school record by carrying a hitting streak through 26 consecutive games into last weekend.
Looking ahead, Texas Tech faces six games over six days starting Friday against Utah and concluding Wednesday against Texas State—all on the road.
