Texas Tech Golf announced on May 15 the hiring of Nathan Weant as assistant coach, a role in which he will work with both the men’s and women’s golf teams.
The addition of Weant comes as Texas Tech aims to strengthen its golf programs and build momentum at the national level. The announcement highlights his previous experience with Texas Tech, his leadership at the University of Louisiana Monroe, and his reputation for recruiting and developing student-athletes.
“Texas Tech is a place that means a great deal to me,” Weant said. “I played here, I’ve worked here, and the vision and excitement this department has for the future make it impossible not to want to be here.”
Weant previously served three seasons (2020-23) as an assistant coach for Texas Tech before taking over as head coach at ULM. During his time leading ULM, the Warhawks recorded their first multiple-win season since 2015 while setting several individual and team scoring records. In his new position at Texas Tech, he will assist with player development, recruiting efforts, golf operations, facility enhancements at Rawls Course, and overall program growth.
Men’s golf head coach Greg Sands said: “Nathan is one of the most authentic and driven people in college golf. For someone to step away from a head coaching position speaks volumes about what Texas Tech means to him and how strongly he believes in where we are headed. He is an elite relationship builder, an outstanding coach, and someone who will positively impact every person in our program.” Women’s golf head coach JoJo Robertson added: “I am thrilled to have Nathan back in Lubbock. His knowledge and experience will be so valuable to our program. I can’t wait for him to get started.” Sands also said: “Nathan understands what makes Texas Tech special… He loves this university, he loves the people here, and he wants to help build something lasting. We are thrilled to welcome him and his family back to Lubbock.”
Weant competed for three seasons at Texas Tech from 2011-13 before finishing his collegiate career at Stephen F. Austin State University. After graduating, he returned briefly to work within athletics administration before coaching Indian Hills Community College’s team that won a national championship in 2018.
Weant is set to begin his new role on June 1.
