Texas Tech University announced on May 8 that its football team will face Houston in the Big 12 Conference opener, scheduled for Sept. 18 at 7 p.m. Central Time, with national coverage on FOX.

The matchup marks a key moment as both teams are included in several preseason top-25 rankings by media outlets, making the game notable for fans and viewers across the country. The Red Raiders have won six consecutive games against Houston and hold victories in eleven of their last twelve meetings, including a win last season.

This announcement follows an earlier schedule adjustment made April 10, which moved the Houston game to Friday night and shifted Texas Tech’s regular-season finale against TCU to Thanksgiving Day, Nov. 26. These changes are part of nine non-Saturday games set by the Big 12 after working with television partners FOX and ESPN.

FOX’s Friday Night package will feature three home-hosted contests from Big 12 teams this season: Kansas hosting Missouri in Week 2, Texas Tech hosting Houston in Week 3, and Utah hosting West Virginia later in Week 13.

While this is the first confirmed kickoff time for Texas Tech’s upcoming season, additional times and television designations for the first three weeks are expected later this month through announcements from the Big 12 Conference and its broadcast partners. Remaining game times will be released during the season based on further selections by television networks.

Single-game tickets for Texas Tech home football games go on sale beginning May 13 exclusively for Red Raider Club members at various contribution levels before opening to all fans starting May 18.
