House Budget Chairman Jodey Arrington and Senator Ted Cruz have introduced legislation to counter President Biden's ban on offshore oil and gas drilling. The move comes in response to the President's recent executive order, which restricts drilling across 625 million acres of federal offshore waters.

Chairman Arrington criticized the decision, stating, "Banning oil and gas production on millions of acres of offshore waters takes direct aim at American energy producers, threatening national security, and empowering adversaries like Russia." He emphasized the importance of reversing this policy to support domestic energy production.

Senator Cruz echoed these sentiments, describing the ban as "an attack on American energy independence, jobs, and national security." He highlighted his commitment to restoring energy dominance achieved under President Trump.

Holly Hopkins from the American Petroleum Institute expressed support for the legislative efforts, noting that offshore resources are crucial for affordable energy and stability. Erik Milito of the National Ocean Industries Association also backed the bill, emphasizing its potential to strengthen the economy and protect national security.

Dustin Van Liew from EnerGeo stressed the importance of continued exploration in maintaining a stable energy mix. Matt Coday of the Oil & Gas Workers Association pointed out that lifting the ban could help lower costs for Americans and reduce reliance on foreign energy sources.

The proposed legislation seeks to overturn Biden's proclamations that cover extensive areas including parts of Alaska and both coasts of the United States. The initiative by Arrington and Cruz aims to restore access to these offshore resources amidst rising demand for energy.
