Washington, D.C. – Chairman Jodey Arrington (TX-19) led over a dozen Members of Congress in opposing the Biden administration’s Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) rule entitled “Clean Power Plan 2.0,” which proposes new regulatory requirements for existing coal-fired and new natural gas-fired power plants.
The members stated, "This new rule impermissibly intrudes directly into states’ responsibilities to assure an electric generation mix that provides reliable, affordable power to their citizens. The rule limits existing generation, under the purview of states, and constrains the expansion of new gas-fired generation. This will further strain the nation’s energy supply, drive up costs for consumers, and surge power outages throughout the country.”
Jim Matheson, CEO of the National Rural Electric Cooperative Association, commented on the issue: “EPA’s power plant rule is unlawful, unreasonable and unachievable. Under the rule, the EPA illegally attempts to transform the US energy economy by forcing a shift in electricity generation to the agency’s favored sources. EPA exceeded its authority and Congress must overturn its action. We thank Rep. Arrington for his support to reverse this harmful rule.”
Joining Chairman Arrington in his letter to the Environmental Protection Agency were Representatives Troy Balderson (OH-12), Carol Miller (WV-01), Pat Fallon (TX-04), Alex Mooney (WV-2), Harriet Hageman (WY-AL), Larry Bucshon (IN-08), Kelly Armstrong (ND-AL), Celeste Maloy (UT-02), Byron Donalds (FL-19), Tracey Mann (KS-01), Ron Estes (KS-04), Ralph Norman (SC-05), and Jay Obernolte (CA-23).
