On June 7, 2024, House Budget Committee Chairman Jodey Arrington (R-TX) appeared on Neil Cavuto’s Coast to Coast on Fox Business to discuss President Biden's approach to Ukraine aid and border security.
During the interview, Arrington commented on the foreign aid support package: “Well, I think it's true, we should unite as an alliance of freedom-loving countries against tyranny. I think those alliances are important – the world is getting more dangerous. And we can't just go it alone. We need Europe to take ownership as we provide the targeted support for Ukraine."
Arrington expressed concerns about discretionary spending within the Ukraine aid package and questioned the competency of decisions made post-Afghanistan under President Biden's administration. He stated, "I didn't support it because I think there's also questions about the competency... when you give discretion to this particular commander in chief." He further added that President Biden should apologize for not addressing issues at the southern border with sufficient resources and attention.
On the topic of border security, Arrington emphasized the need for clear objectives in supporting Ukraine: “We need an end game. We can't have endless drawdowns and a lot of discretion to this President when we don't even know what the desired goals are where we can find a peace agreement there." He criticized what he described as hyper-partisanship in decision-making at the White House.
Arrington also mentioned concerns over recent executive orders related to border security and student loan forgiveness, which he believes will burden future taxpayers. He highlighted inconsistencies in U.S. foreign policy regarding military support: "Here’s some more weapons and munitions to be aggressive in defense of your sovereign country [Ukraine], but then withholding from Israel munitions and weapons..."
