WASHINGTON D.C. – President Biden signed an Executive Order aimed at securing the U.S.-Mexico border, utilizing Section 212(f) authorities of the Immigration and Nationality Act, a provision he previously criticized former President Trump for employing. The order seeks to enhance the asylum screening process, expedite immigration case resolutions, and foster cooperation with Mexico to address the fentanyl crisis.
Chairman Arrington commented during his opening statements at the House Budget Committee’s hearing titled "Cost of the Border Crisis": "The greatest national security threat to the American people is posed by these open borders. The social cost has consistently been well in front of the American people. I don't think we've talked enough about the financial burden to taxpayers and the fiscal impact."
The House Budget Committee highlighted that FAIR’s most recent report estimated a $150.7 billion cost in 2023 for managing nearly 22 million illegal immigrants, equating to $8,776 per immigrant annually.
Critics argue that Biden's policies have led to increased federal and state costs, crime rates, drug trafficking incidents, and terrorist apprehensions. They assert that while Biden's recent executive actions appear as efforts to secure votes and project responsible governance, they are insufficient in addressing longstanding issues attributed to his administration’s border policies.
