Washington, D.C. – Today, Chairman Jodey Arrington (TX-19) expressed his firm stance following the House's passage of numerous bills aimed at countering Iranian actions, particularly after the recent attack on Israel. Arrington emphasized his unwavering support for Israel, stating, "Iran’s direct attack on Israel and the countless assaults carried out by Iranian proxies are reprehensible and risk dragging the entire region into conflict."

Attributing the current global instability to what he perceives as the Biden administration's foreign policy shortcomings, Arrington criticized the administration for emboldening Iran. He asserted, "The global instability we are witnessing is a direct result of Biden’s weak and feckless foreign policy." Arrington highlighted the importance of American strength in maintaining global security, stating, "When America isn’t strong, the world is less safe."

The House passed a series of measures to counter Iran, including bills such as the "No U.S. Financing for Iran Act of 2023," the "Iran-China Energy Sanctions Act of 2023," and the "Holding Iranian Leaders Accountable Act of 2023." These measures aim to cut off financial support to Iran, target Chinese entities involved in Iranian trade, and expose the finances of Iranian leaders, among other objectives.

In past actions, Arrington has been actively involved in pushing for stringent measures against Iran. In October 2023, he co-sponsored the "Iran Maximum Pressure Act" to reinstate sanctions on Iran. Additionally, in December 2021, Arrington led a bipartisan effort urging the State Department to hold Iran accountable for its non-compliance with international obligations.

The recent legislative actions against Iran reflect a broader effort by the United States to address Iran's destabilizing activities in the region and support its allies. Arrington emphasized the need for continued efforts to strengthen American deterrence and restore peace through strength in the face of ongoing geopolitical challenges.
