The House Budget Committee Oversight Task Force (OTF) sent a letter to the Department of Labor (DOL) requesting clarification on the mismanagement of pandemic Unemployment Insurance (UI) funds. The DOL missed the deadline to address this issue by March 18, 2024, a week after receiving the President’s proposed budget for Fiscal Year 2025.

According to the House Budget Committee, the Biden administration needs to take action to stop wasting taxpayer dollars on improper payments and protect Americans from fraud within the UI program. The administration is seeking $313 million in additional funding to modernize and strengthen the UI program.

In response to the DOL's failure to provide transparency, the House Budget OTF members are committed to uncovering the answers that American taxpayers deserve. The committee intends to take further steps to ensure that the executive branch fulfills its obligations.

The House Budget Committee's Oversight Task Force emphasized the importance of working together with Congress to implement necessary reforms in the UI program. They are dedicated to holding the DOL and the Biden administration accountable for addressing the issues surrounding unemployment insurance.

As the situation unfolds, the House Budget Committee will continue to push for increased oversight and transparency to ensure that taxpayer funds are being used effectively and efficiently in the UI program.
