Texas Tech University professor Walter Smith donates $550 to Mary Jennings M.J. Hegar's campaign

Walter Smith, a professor at Texas Tech University, donated $550 to Democratic Party candidate Mary Jennings M.J. Hegar, according to the Federal Election Commission.

According to records, there have been $15,353 in campaign contributions made by individuals affiliated with Texas Tech University as of November 3. Approximately 52.8 percent, or $8,103, of these contributions were made to Democratic Party candidates and committees.

Robert Ricketts' contribution of $2,000 to Democratic Party Mary Jennings M.J. Hegar was the largest contribution made by someone affiliated with Texas Tech University since January 1, 2019.

According to an Inside Higher Ed analysis of federal elections data, individuals that were affiliated with colleges and universities have donated five times more money to Joe Biden than to President Trump. A study by Pew Research in 2017 found that 58 percent of Republicans and Republican-leaning independents thought colleges and universities have a negative impact on the way things are going in this country.
