Cost of college went up for all students at Texas Tech University

In-state tuition and fees rose 2.5 percent for 2018-19 at Texas Tech University, according to recent data from the U.S. Department of Education.

Texas residents paid $9,080 to attend the four-year public institution this year – $220 more than the $8,860 charged for 2017-18.

Non-residents paid 109.7 percent more than residents this year, or $19,040. Their price tag grew 2.1 percent from $18,652 in 2017-18.

About 92 percent of the school's undergraduate population are Texas residents. About 6 percent are residents of other states and 2 percent are citizens of other countries.

Data shows 78 percent of full-time undergraduates who started school in 2015-16 received student financial aid in some form. In all, 3,321 students received grants or scholarships totaling $24.8 million and 2,540 students took out student loans totaling more than $20.9 million.

Including all undergraduates (38,209), 16,787 students used grants or scholarships totaling $120.6 million, and 13,791 students took out $119.3 million in federal student loans.
