The City of Lubbock is requesting another drive-thru COVID-19 testing site that would add to the two sites already operating.
“We are currently in negotiations,” City Manager Jarrett Atkinson told the City Council, according to Everything Lubbock. “It will be a large corporate partnership with a good corporate citizen here in Lubbock working with the State of Texas and with us.”
A third site is planned for South-Central Lubbock, Atkinson said.
“They’re bringing all of the medical professionals, all of the testing supplies, the shipping to the labs, all of that,” Atkinson told the City Council. “The local commitment to that is really going to be just to provide security for it. Lubbock Police Department and other partners would be providing the security.”
As of April 25, Texas reported 23,773 confirmed cases of the coronavirus, including 623 deaths. Lubbock County has 494 confirmed cases of COVID-19.
“Lubbock is currently testing at a rate that’s approximately two-times the state average for testing," Atkinson said. "And I think this will make even more testing available to our residents.”
