Lubbock Habitat for Humanity is partnering with Blitz Home Builders Organization to build three homes in 10 days from Sept. 7-17, 2020.

“This is such an exciting time for Lubbock Habitat as we bring back the  Blitz Build," Lubbock Habitat Executive Director Christy Reeves told KCBD in a news release. "We feel so blessed that the Blitz Home Builder expert team will be here to work with our local volunteers, donors and staff to make the event a huge success.”

Blitz Home Builders is a group of volunteers who work with partner organizations to execute an annual "build blitz" to provide decent, affordable housing. The build is from foundation to finished home in five to 10 days.

According to the Blitz Home Builders website, volunteers "come together each year to build homes for deserving families, meet new people, learn new skills, work hard, and have fun." Groups are led by a team of skilled leaders who have experience in blitz builds. Blitz Home Builders have been serving communities across the nation since 1998.

“Affordable housing is a huge need in Lubbock," Reeves said. "Habitat is attempting to build four to six homes a year and this Blitz Build will be a fun and efficient way to help achieve that goal. If any business, individual, church, or organizations can assist with donations or time, we need the help.”

Local companies, churches and other organizations are already on board to help with the build, but the release says more help is needed and the entire community is encouraged to participate.

Lubbock Habitat for Humanity will host a casual gala event, "Hard Hats and Heels," on May 2 at the American Windmill Museum. Tickets, sponsorship and more information can be found at lubbockhabitat.org/events.
