The City of Lubbock Water Utilities encourages customers to dispose of their holiday meal waste in the trash or compost rather than down the sink. This will help prevent clogging up of the sewer and sewage backups into homes and businesses.

Holiday meals are delicious. However, these meals create fats, oils, and grease (FOG) waste. If these waste products are dumped into a sink, they can clog pipes. This can cause bad odors and sewer overflows.

You can prevent these costly sewer issues by disposing holiday meal waste in the trash or compost. Use paper towels to wipe off oily residue from your kitchenware, and scrape waste into the trash. If FOG from your meal is a hot liquid, pour it into a container, let it cool, store and reuse it, or toss it into the trash.

You can also drop off FOG for recycling at the Southside Citizens Convenience Station at 1631 84th Street, Mondays-Saturdays from 8:00 a.m.- 5:30 p.m.
