Representative Jodey Arrington, a member of Congress from Texas, has recently used his social media platform to address issues related to the ongoing government shutdown and infrastructure developments in West Texas.

On October 1, 2025, Arrington posted about congressional pay during the shutdown: “If members of our military don’t get paid during the Schumer shutdown, members of Congress shouldn’t either! That’s why I’m withholding my paycheck until the government reopens.”

Later that same day, he addressed the financial impact of government shutdowns and proposed legislative action: “Government shutdowns cost taxpayers and our economy billions of dollars, but politicians never do anything to stop the dysfunction. My bill would force Members of Congress to stay in DC for as long as it takes to get their work done. No budget, no recess!” This post was made on October 1, 2025.

On October 2, 2025, Arrington shifted focus to regional infrastructure projects: “Honored to join the Ports-to-Plains Alliance this morning in Lubbock to celebrate the progress we’ve made on the I-27 Corridor – a true game-changer for West Texas and America’s Heartland. From authorizing the four lane federal highway in 2022 to securing millions of dollars in”

Arrington has maintained strong electoral support throughout his tenure. In recent elections, he defeated Nathan Lewis in both 2024 and 2022 with over 80% of the vote each time. His earlier victories include defeating Tom Watson in 2020 with nearly three-quarters of votes cast and winning against Miguel Levario in 2018 by a similar margin. In his initial run for office in 2016, Arrington secured more than 86% of votes against Troy Bonar.

These statements come amid broader national discussions about government funding impasses and efforts to improve transportation infrastructure across rural regions.
