House Budget Committee Chairman Jodey Arrington said on Mar. 30 that using a second reconciliation package is necessary to address national security concerns and support American troops, during an appearance on “My View with Lara Trump” on FOX News.

The discussion comes as Congress considers legislative strategies to manage federal spending and respond to global threats. The House Budget Committee, which is part of the U.S. House of Representatives and includes members from key committees such as Ways and Means and Appropriations, plays a central role in these decisions, according to the official website.

Arrington addressed recent government shutdowns linked to policies enacted during the COVID era, criticizing what he described as failed programs like Obamacare. He said, “We’ve had shutdowns over fraud-ridden COVID-era policies that are propping up failed programs like Obamacare and why we’ve had needless shutdowns over stopping the deportation of criminal aliens and demasking our law enforcement agents—putting them in harm’s way and compromising their safety and supporting sanctuary cities. So, yes, that’s [the Democrats’] mindset right now.” He emphasized the importance of reconciliation as a legislative tool: “The only way we’re going to legislate is with the most potent legislative tool: reconciliation… That’s the same tool that we need to use to Make America Safe Again—supporting our troops so they can finish the job in Iran… but also make a down payment on how we fight wars into the future.”

Arrington also discussed President Trump’s approach to foreign policy challenges: “The President is a man with a bias for action. We’ve had politicians come through this town and say they’re going to do things; call out the very same threats. But it’s been hollow rhetoric… And for almost 50 years, we have let this threat continue to grow. Thank God for President Trump, who said no more.” He added that efforts would focus on ensuring oil flows through strategic routes such as the Strait of Hormuz despite anticipated disruptions.

The House Budget Committee oversees federal spending decisions by preparing annual budget resolutions designed to promote fiscal responsibility according to its official website. It has influenced budget management through use of processes like reconciliation according to its official website, collaborating closely with entities such as the Congressional Budget Office for independent analyses according to its official website.

Arrington currently serves as chairman of this committee according to its official website. The committee’s work includes setting guidelines for federal spending targets each year according to its official website.
