Texas Tech sprinters Desean Boyce and Alyssa Colbert were named Big 12 Athletes of the Week, according to an April 1 announcement from the league office. This marks the first time both athletes have received this weekly outdoor honor in their careers.
The recognition highlights strong performances by both runners as they begin their outdoor seasons. Awards like these are given to athletes who show outstanding achievements in collegiate track and field competitions.
Boyce opened his season with a winning time of 45.32 seconds in the 400-meter race. His performance currently leads all competitors in the Big 12 Conference and ranks second nationally among NCAA athletes. He is scheduled to compete next on Texas Tech’s 4×400 relay team at the upcoming Texas Relays.
Colbert returned after missing a year due to a hamstring injury and won the women’s 100-meter dash with a wind-aided time of 10.99 seconds, which is currently ranked first in the NCAA. She will participate this weekend on Texas Tech’s women’s 4×100 relay team.
Both Boyce and Colbert’s accomplishments reflect positively on Texas Tech’s track program as they prepare for further competition during the outdoor season.
