House Budget Committee Chairman Jodey Arrington has expressed support for the Trump Administration’s recent decision to establish a new division within the U.S. Department of Justice focused on combating fraud against the federal government.
In a statement, Arrington said, “Fraud against the federal government isn’t a victimless crime, it’s theft of hardworking Americans’ tax dollars—as much as a half-a-trillion dollars a year, according to the nonpartisan Government Accountability Office.
“Establishing a dedicated Department of Justice division to crack down on fraud is a commonsense step to better enforce the law and protect taxpayer dollars. Congress has already given law enforcement powerful tools, but what’s been missing is a whole-of-government commitment and sustained focus.
“The Trump Administration is right to take this head on and aggressively go after fraudsters, claw back stolen taxpayer dollars, and make clear that stealing from taxpayers is no longer tolerated.”
The House Budget Committee plays an important role in managing federal expenditures and creating budget resolutions while providing oversight for long-term programs. The committee promotes fiscal responsibility through its operations and related analyses as described on its official website. It operates within the U.S. House of Representatives and works closely with other key committees such as Ways and Means and Appropriations, according to information available on its official website.
Jodey Arrington currently serves as chairman of the committee. The committee also collaborates with the Congressional Budget Office for independent analysis, oversees federal spending, prepares annual budget resolutions, develops guidelines for spending targets, and utilizes processes like reconciliation in budget management. Established in 1974 by the Congressional Budget and Impoundment Control Act, it maintains its operations in Washington, D.C., as part of its oversight role in government fiscal policy.
