House Budget Chairman Jodey Arrington, who represents Texas’s 19th district, issued a statement on October 1, 2025, following the decision by House and Senate Democrats to vote against a clean Continuing Resolution.

Arrington said: “The Democrats’ wildly unserious demands for an additional $1.5 trillion—including health care for illegals and welfare for able-bodied adults who refuse to work—will result in veterans and vulnerable citizens suffering lack of services, military contracts being cancelled, and taxpayers and the economy losing billions of dollars.

“The Democrat Party used to be against shutdowns until they were overrun by the socialist Left – and you just can’t reason with radicals.”

Arrington has held his seat since first being elected in 2016. He has consistently won re-election by large margins, defeating Nathan Lewis in both the 2024 and 2022 general elections with more than 80 percent of the vote each time. In previous elections, he also secured victories over Tom Watson in 2020, Miguel Levario in 2018, and Troy Bonar in 2016.
